Our Stanwood High School sports medicine club traveled to Kennewick, WA April 22-23rd to compete in the 22nd annual WCTSMA state symposium and competition. A record 45 teams and 870 students competed this year. Stanwood performed well and came away with a number of awards.
They are as follows:
5th place as a team in the small schools division.
Poster presentation winners in the Rehabilitation of a Specific Injury: Lower Extremity category (Bailey Post, Ashley Bierer, Kaitlynn Wilson).
Outstanding student forum (Liam Shelley, Carlie Roberts, Taylor Padgett, Ella Conway, Rylee Byrum) presentation.
Top individual performances go to Katy James for her 4th place finish in Medical Terminology and Camryn Cross for placing 8th in Medical Terminology. Megan Schakel placed 15th individually out of 80 students in the CPR event.
Team members who scored for Stanwood and earned 5th place as a team include: Ciera Cline, Nick Tichota, Makena Storey, Whitney Smith, Amanda Givens, Izzy Newton, Camryn Cross, Katy James, Alexa Primovich, Ian Griffin, Megan Schakel, Lily Austin, Luba Klein, and Alexis Newsom. This group of students has also qualified for the AACI National High School Sports Medicine competition in May.
